Best Eats of 2012: Hong Kong

Reminscing on last year's food trips ...

February 2012: Hong Kong

Got to know these amazing foodies last year who travel to eat - not for work, only to appreciate. An awesome bunch. Here's where we ate ...

Caprice
We had different views but the best - and fanciest - meal for me was at Caprice at the Four Seasons.

The minute you step in, you feel pampered: English-speaking receptionists give a welcome greeting and escort you to your table, really friendly waiters know the menu well, luxurious chairs make you want to lounge til the afternoon, and a huge piece of tapestry and the breathtaking view of the harbor make you feel like you're on top of the world (looking down on creation and the only explanation I can find ...).

Then there's the cuisine by Vincent Thierry. A most memorable shellfish bisque; superb duck and gnocchi; delicate salmon cannelloni; and an eye-teasing snowball tiramisu. You leave really satisfied. Even if your accountant wouldn't be!

8 1/2 Otto e Mezzo Bombana

Another splurge meal was at Otto, whose chef Umberto Bombana was voted as Chef of Chefs at the Miele Guide Awards.
My lunch date, Chow Buzz's Cyrene dela Rosa, waited for me at this lounge that serves as a kind of ante-room to the dining area.

While the other Ladies Who Lafang, who were seated at the other end of the room, opted for the degustation menu, Cyrene and I just zoned in on what seemed most indulgent:

Oh, just a little foie ...

Oh, and just some eggs ... with black truffles ... nothing too fancy ... (except for the hot waiter we kept trying to take stolen shots of haha) ...

Oh, and just some lobster with uni ...
Lobster Cassoulet

Achoo-choo. Excuse me while I make tusok-tusok the lobster.

Cyrene also needed to get her fix of burrata so she ordered this cheese-stuffed ravioli ...

Nothing too indulgent namannnnn...

And for dessert, my double chin had a photo op with the main man ...

Yung Kee

It seems a trip to Hong Kong isn't complete without a family dinner at Yung Kee. So that's what we did. We all had different schedules to do our own thing but we had one great night out and met up for dinner at Yung Kee before heading out to LKF.

Truth be told, this wasn't an awesome meal as it has been built up to be. The goose was a little soggy, the service was slow and at times condescending. Interestingly enough, it was the century eggs that made a good impression that evening. Maybe the large crowd is getting a bit too taxing for the kitchen? The pains of popularity ...

But anyway what was more important was the great company.

Guys, it's a new year. Let there be peace and Guinness (sorry, inside joke.) As the movie title says: One more try! ;)

To good times!! :) Hooray for Hong Kong!!!
