News | NOMA Regains Title As World's Number 1

The World's 50 Best Restaurants list is out!

Regaining its place at Number 1 is Denmark's NOMA

Rene Redzepi (with arms crossed), chef of Noma, World's Number 1 restaurant and Massimo Botturo of Osteria Francescana  (in glasses), Tetsuya Wakuda (Tetsuya's, Waku Ghin) and Narisawa of Narisawa, Tokyo.

After nine years on the list and three consecutive wins in 2010, 2011 and 2012, Noma regained its title as The S.Pellegrino World’s Best Restaurant. Noma chef-owner René Redzepi is recognised for his highly original, sometimes visceral version of new Nordic cuisine. His food strives to reflect the Danish landscape and culture with signature dishes such as ‘Blackcurrant Berries and Roses’. Redzepi’s meticulous attention to detail, innovative approach to foraging and experimentation with fermentation – all driven by passion and a relentless curiosity – has once again brought his restaurant to the pinnacle.

At Number 2 is Girona, Spain's EL CELLER DE CAN ROCA. The Roca brothers did not go empty-handed, though, as Jordi Roca won the inaugural title of The World’s Best Pastry Chef.  Jordi is known for his creativity and irreverence when it comes to desserts; his vision matched by incredible skill and precision.
In fact, Spain has seven restaurants on the list, three of which are in the top ten. Mugaritz is now at No.6, with fellow San Sebastian establishment Arzak remaining at No.8.  New entry Azurmendi from Larrabetzu, near Bilbao, debuts at No. 26 and also picks up the Sustainable Restaurant Award.

Caught Massimo Bottura in Turin, Italy, promoting Pargmigiano Reggiano.

At Number 3 is Italy's OSTERIA FRANCESCANA. It is Massimo Bottura’s second time to hold the No.3 spot.
