I Can Serve

The I Can Serve Foundation, a breast cancer advocacy group, will be holding a fundraiser this coming August 11-12 at the Rockwell Tent: a Food Festival where all the ticket proceeds will go to the foundation.

The best thing about this food festival is that it is for a cause: all proceeds go to the foundation, which helps raise awareness for early detection of breast cancer and raise funds to assist indigent breast cancer patients.

The next best thing is that it will be an AMAZING food spread. The organizers decided to NOT get restaurant owners or restaurant chefs, instead they are featuring chefs who have no restaurants but are either established (Myrna Segismundo, Jill Sandique, Reggie Aspiras), up and coming (Anne Castro) or based out of town (The Farm). The picture above shows all the chefs who will be participating in the event save for Myrna Segismundo and Jill Sandique who are both abroad at the moment.

The line up includes Suman Gogna, who is earning a very good reputation by word of mouth about the Indian food that she caters; Michele Orival, who specializes in French cuisine, as you would know if you frequent the Salcedo Market; Pixie Sevilla-Santos of Forget Me Not in New Manila; and Anne Castro of Dagupena Bangus. As well as bigwigs Reggie Aspiras, arguably one of Manila's finest culinary experts; Myrna Segismundo, arguably the Philippines' number 1 chef; and Jill Sandique, arguably the Philippines' number 1 pastry chef.

Entrance fee will be P200 only then you can select whatever lunch/merienda/dinner cuisine you prefer (separate rates for the meals of course, to be pegged by each participant himself).

There will also be food events like wine appreciation, table arrangement lessons, and the like.

Enderun College, co-sponsoring the event, will have their students on hand to serve the guests and help in the kitchen. "Floor direction" will be handled by Chad Davis, F&B manager of Enderun, a really cool Australian dude who was formerly F&B manager of Edsa Shang. Tony Rodriguez is designing the set up so you can expect an amazing ambiance.

You don't want to miss this event. All these chefs come together only once in a blue moon. So save the date and help save a life!

Check out this restaurant when you next go to Tagaytay – Kanin Club at Paseo de Sta. Rosa (that mall to your left if you’re going to Tagaytay). If I can write, I will do the review myself because their food is definitely GREAT!

I went there because it was highly recommendation by a foodie friend, and I was not disappointed. I was in fact wowed by the food. They serve Filipino-Asian cuisine. Don’t miss out on their crispy dinuguan and turon. Sarap talaga.

By the way, go there during off hours since they have a small space which gets filled up right away. I personally experienced having to wait for a table for 15 mins. I suggest you go at 11am or after 1pm.

I wrote because I read your column every week and I noticed that the feature you wrote last Sunday on coffee shops was so-so. Kanin Club might just perk up interest among those who watch out for food finds in your column.

Happy eating!

God bless you always,

Chinky

A good friend who works at the Ford plant in Sta. Rosa has been raving about the Kanin Club non-stop. She says there's another one also that's good called Kid Kanina I think?
