Mario Batali on Food Bloggers

Has anyone read this one on "why Mario Batali hates food bloggers"?

Yes, but he now blogs on Serious Eats. He writes there as you'd imagine him talking to a friend about food (f--- this and lots of druggie references). Sort of like what he sounds like in Heat by B. Buford.

Batali now blogs on Serious Eats?! Now that's hypocritical! Did he at least explain the about-turn?

Did you follow the link to the interview of Batali and Bourdain? It's clear who has the better sense of humor (and less insecurity?). I heart Bourdain! :-)

He didn't write an explanation of why he's now blogging on SE, but I think it has to do with the good relationship with Ed Levine (who heads SE). I think if you read the post on his anti-bloggers pov, it was particular to the scenario that he and his restaurant was facing at the time.

I think Michael Ruhlman has a good short message about the difference between Batali and Bourdain. I'll stick to my groupie status for Batali anytime; he's still the better chef of the two. Ego or not.

Its sort of sad to hear that he doesn't like food blogs. But I guess if one gets criticized consistently in a medium one can barely work with, I guess it was bound to happen.

Ironic though that he would choose to challenge what he hated using the very same thing which is the object of his hate.

I think his point was dead-on. When blogging is fully accepted as a form of journalism, then it should have to adhere to strict journalistic standards (which right now it doesn't). Personally, I don't get any of my hard news from blogs, but I love me some food blogs! It's FUN, which is what Batali said it should be, but a piece w/ journalistic integrity? maybe not. God, I hope he doesn't read my Food Network rant on my blog! Even though he's praised in it, I go off on all his ex coworkers! But it is meant to be my OPINION... not truth (except the Rachel Ray blows hard part). Amy @ www.neverfull.wordpress.com
