| Brasserie Cicou's Beef Bourguignon (Single Serving) |
It’s because this restaurant is as close to French home cooking as you can get in Manila. It’s really like provincial Filipino cooking – except it’s French! Big servings, strong flavors, but all done beautifully and with excellent ingredients.
I wrote about them for my column MENU in Inquirer Lifestyle in 2012 and said: "Finally, Greenhills is Frenchified—and the right way!" So happy to note that they have maintained their standards to this day.
But I am writing this now because they have two new specials - chanterelle mushrooms and a whole new Kouign Amann line up - that must be shared!!!
CHANTERELLE MENU
I went for the
egg cocotte with chanterelles. (PS The other cocotte I really love in the metro is
in Lusso. You should try that too!)
But I really fell
in love with this Chaneterelle Risotto. It’s a little heavy – good enough to
share if you eat light – but the good news is that the owners don’t scrimp on
the chanterelles.
SAVORY KOUIGN
AMANN
The Kouign Amann
was a huge hit when it first came out. It was Instagrammed like crazy.
A few months ago,
I had another kind of Kouign Amann: Smores Kouign Amann!! It was crazy good.
Then I guess
their kitchen went really crazy and now they have all these other KA flavors –
both savory and sweet!
On my last visit
I ordered the Chocnut flavor. It eerily tastes like chocnut, too!
A couple of weeks
earlier I tried the Kouign Amann ENSAYMADA. How perfect is this? The perfect
blend of Filipino and French in a dessert.
I’ve also tried a savory one: goat cheese and leeks. Surprisingly a beautiful contrast and not odd at all. You know how the savory menu of Krispy Kreme is just off? This one is not AT ALL. It is actually pretty good.

These are not cheap. For the sweet ones, you get two pieces with their signature ice cream for P300+ to P400+ depending on the flavor (must be the butter!) The individual pieces are more accessible at P130 to P150 per piece.
Still, my goal is to try them all! Haha. So good. You can buy a box.
