Pizzetas

Of course I found myself in Apartment 1B, now officially my favorite restaurant and I've been here - what, a good five hours now. I started at 4:00 p.m. with an order of pizzettas, thinking I would leave at 5:00 p.m. when the vicious Makati City towing starts. But I ended up moving my car instead, ordering a cup of llly . Later, Dr. Badiday joined me and ordered a burger for dinner, which he says was the best burger of his Manila life (music to my ears). And I moved on to have a screwdriver. (Sunset = alcohol).
I finally met Marivic Diaz-Lim, the owner, and true to character, I gushed, "I'm such a fannnnn ..." Well, it's true. The pizzettas were my latest find. The flavors: salty (anchovies), the taste of basil, sweet (!) from the caramelized onions (a real surprise), and gruyere and parmesan cheese, who were quiet supporting actors in this production. The dough is really though - hard to slice - so i rolled it and ate it like a quesadilla.
This restaurant has never failed me. With Apartment 1B, there's no place like home!

it does sound interesting...:)
I've only been here once but will definitely return! :)
Saw you in Yummy...nice feature! I love the Makati neighborhoods (I have to include Legaspi because that's my "hood") and their vibe and energy :)
oh cool i haven't even seen the feature yet, just heard from tableforthree's joey that it's out. must buy myself a copy! thanks for the heads up =)
hey sakai, yup it was really interesting for me too because i'm usually there for brunch. the pizzettas are in a smaller menu for pica-picas that they don't ordinarily give out unless you ask for dessert or especially for that menu.
I love Apartment 1B. Very homey. The last time I went (before flying here) in December 2007 there are no Pizzetas yet. Is it a new offering? A must try when I am back for a vacation.
I'm going tomorrow! Too enticing :)
i love apartment 1B! :)
Dr. Badiday should try the burger at Elbert's. I heard they use the same beef they use for their acclaimed steaks.
I'd like to try this one out. I always look forward to your Sunday Inquirer features to check out good places to eat. I'm seldom in Manila so I use it as guide to see where I can eat the next time I'm there.
Keep it up!
Hee hee so many fans of Apartment 1B! Oooh, Anonymous (are you Elbert? hehe), i didn't know burgers were being offered at Elbert's now. Shows how long I haven't been! Must make my way to dela Costa!
Hey Gay, thanks! Other great guides are the blogs - I use them myself! For restaurants, anton's ourawesomeplanet, rants and raves (even if she's away she manages to get updated real quick!), 80breakfasts, tableforthreeplease, and lori's dessertcomesfirst are the ones i frequent.
Hey, I was in Apt. 1B last Friday evening and ordered the pizzetas upon your recommendation. You're so right, it's yummy! Mine looked different from the one in your picture, though -- instead of several round pizzetas, it looked more like a small pizza, cut into the usual triangular shape. And the crust was actually crisp, so I was quite happy.
By the way, were you there that night, and were you in a light fuschia top? I couldn't be sure it was you (I was sitting outside and couldn't see very well), but I kept looking because if it was you, I wanted to thank you in person for the pizzetas recommendation. :-)
Hey Katrina! No, last Friday I was in Bacolod. Hmmmm, now I'm wondering who that girl in fuschia might be! Haha! But i'm so happy you liked the pizzetas too! =)
