The great thing about Dr. Bad is that he is good enough to make sure that I eat and eat well.
Last Saturday, 27 September, he treated me to dinner at Circles at the Shang Makati. I hadn't been here in a while - last time was maybe two years ago - how fast time flies - so it was a real delight to try the buffet again. Because we had had a late lunch, I was actually still quite full on the way. Fortunately, by the time we arrived, I had worked up an appetite - by sheer mental preparation, I would say!
I realized that my buffet habits have changed. I noticed myself staying away from the rice and gravitating towards the more expensive dishes - like the prime rib - only because I figured it would cost the same anyway - why waste the opportunity! Reminded me of a Will and Grace episode where Grace lectured Will on how to work a buffet table (skip the veggies!).
I ended up skipping the entire Filipino section except for one item - rellenong squid (stuffed squid in a tomato sauce) which was FAB, too bad I was too lazy to take a picture. I also tried the LAMB legs, which were, as expected, of very good quality. But what I had two servings of was, like I said, the prime rib. So soft.
I insisted on a wine pairing but they're EXPAHHHNSIVE here - so I just went for a glass of Green Valley pinot noir (P750). I found it ... light. (I can't do that whole 'fruity with hint of vanilla' kind of description yet - tongue has yet to be trained!). Felt ... young. Ah ... someday yet I shall achieve my dream of becoming a wine connosseur!
But the highlight of my night was my dance with the Liverot Cheese. Ahhh cheese beautiful cheese. I hadn't pigged out on cheese in a while but tonight we met and did our little dance again. I indulged in a bit of each on the platter ... feta, goat, brie, blue ... and the liverot! I closed my eyes and enjoyed the liverot ... then giggled when I took another bite but this time with a bit of dried apricot. It's fun, I promise! The change in taste is fascinating! I had a ball making Dr. Bad experiment with me.
I no longer had room for dessert but I couldn't help but take a piece of Chocolate Envelope - melted chocolate enveloped in a chocolate lining. Dark, rich, yum! I guess after the rounds, Circles is still one of the best buffets in town!

Normal buffet strategy would dictate filling up on the most expensive dishes first (ditch all the veggies and the teeny tiny appetizers and go for the meat!) but I was having hotel buffets twice a week over the summer and they kind of lost their novelty. =)
As my father always likes to say ... I spend so much money on fitness pursuits I might as well try to eat properly (and eat *what* I want!) when I can.
Blogging with a vengence.:) Welcome back, margaux.
Hahahahahaha! Franco you crack me up! Ang dami ko kasing backlog! Hahaha =)
To Wysgal's dad, hear, hear! =)
What a gastronomic weekend you had -- sarap! :-) I heart cheese, too, so I do the same thing: get bits (okay, maybe more than a bit) of each one, then try to remember which made an impression. Unfortunately, I have a horrible memory, so I sometimes forget what I ate! :-/ Next time, I'll take notes, hehe!
Katrina, I actually asked the guy tending the cheese section around three times about the liverot (the third time - and by this time I was seated and he had to come out and to our table because I asked the waiter yet again - I think he was actually annoyed hee hee oh well!) - I couldn't remember its name! And finally I had to put in my head - ok, rotting liver - to remember it! It's really easy to forget! Haha =)
