Chief Ariel Manuel's new menu. Lolo Dad's made Miele Guide 2010 Philippines Top 5. |
Ladies and gentlemen, the List goes to ...
#1. Antonio's Fine Dining by Chef Tonyboy Escalante
Purok 138, Bgy Niyogan, Tagaytay City, Cavite
+63 918 899 2866
Closed on Mondays. Tues to Sun 11 am - 3 pm, 5.30 pm - 10 pm.
www.antoniosrestaurant.ph
Been a fan of Antonio's since I was in college and it's where the smooth guys would take the prettiest girls on a date. Since the time it became known for having rejected no less than Senator Loren Legarda (myth!) as she arrived without a reservation til the days of Breakfast and to this day when it is becoming as known for its steak and mojito as much for the duck and Spanferckel, Tonyboy Escalante continues to make us proud while keeping us wanting for more!
#2. Restaurant Verbena

Still one of the most reliable restaurants in Tagaytay, especially if you are looking for a bed and breakfast feel.

#3. People's Palace

Monday - Thursday 11 am - 12 mn, Friday and Saturday 11am to 2am, Sunday 11am - 11pm

Although I still prefer Benjarong, which also made the list, this restaurant remains a favorite for quality and authentic Thai cuisine in Makati. A chef's choice by word of mouth, it would have been puzzling if it didn't make Top 5.
#4. Aubergine
32d and 5th Building, 5th Avenue cor 32d Street Bonifacio Global City
+63 2 856 9888
Daily 11am - 2pm, 6pm - 10pm
www.aubergine.ph
The best place for a business lunch, with its impeccable service and competitive wine list. Commendable considering the kitchen is in the hands of culinary students. Maybe the best results are created with those who have something to prove.

#5. Lolo Dad's
899 Quirino Ave (cor. Leon Guinto), Malate

Closed on Sundays. Monday 6.30 pm - 10.30 pm, Tuesday - Saturday 11 am - 2 pm, 6.30 pm - 10.30 pm.
Blame it on location or the fact that Lolo Dad's has earned its reputation without any PR and primarily by word of mouth, with Ariel Manuel's reputation for being the most progressive chef in the country, those in the restaurant industry might be puzzled at Lolo Dad's rank of just #5. Take it as a challenge to spread the word as to its goodness. Note that it's the MANILA resto, the original fine dining Lolo Dad's, and NOT Lolo Dad's Bistro (of Tonyboy Cojuangco) in 6750 that made the list. THIS is where you can expect the fine dining that made Chef Ariel's name in culinary circles. Incidentally, it has a NEW MENU: one with foie gras with apples, a duo of lobster and sea bass, tuna on watermelon, and other "architecturalized" dishes that will once again exemplify why Chef Ariel remains the most respected in the industry.
More on others who made the list IN THE METRO tomorrow!
