Bistro Filipino on Friday Evening

Famished from the Bohol trip, I demanded hoity toity food upon stepping back on Manila soil. Doc Aga, as he likes to be called (puhleeese! pero sige, pagbigyan ang maginoo!), would have been content with Myron's at Rockwell (he's addicted to their rib eye and dark caramel ice cream) - which has become our go-to resto of choice (HIS choice) - but I wanted fancy, creative food. Something about the raw glory of provincial food does that to me (in the summer of '07, when I lived in Mindoro, every opportunity I would get for restaurant food in the city, I grabbed!).

What I especially craved for was a foie gras salad. At first we attempted to get seats at Gourmand. Alas, all seats taken, we found our way to (my first choice, actually) Bistro Filipino instead.

What a happy second choice this was. The place hasn't changed. Still the same attentive waiters, still the same friendly conversation from the chef (although he knows be my now - but I actually just met him maybe three weeks ago), still the same creative food. And I must say it was creative even without the chef because our appetizers arrived before Chef Rolando Laudico and wife got to the restaurant.

I had my trio of foie gras salad - yay! - seared (on top), creamed (working like a filling) and rolled (like a filling for turon) - which was fantastic. Equally as memorable was the trio of appetizers.

Especially with this (above pictured) baby. That's kesong puti (carabao cheese) inside.

There's good news about Bistro Filipino but I cannot divulge it until the end of the month, when the Guide is launched (haha - I'm giving it away anyway!). I couldn't be happier for this great couple and their baby of a restaurant!

Haven't been here ... surprising really since I eat out so much when I'm in Manila. On my try list for the coming holidays!

Made the list? Looking forward to reading the guide. :) Although, I must confess that Bistro Filipino has disappointed me in the past. Lack of consistency. But, I think I'll be passing by again soon...Thanks.
